OSU College Forests & Benton County Extension and Outreach: National Get Outdoors Day Volunteer
When: Saturday, June 8th, 2013; multiple shifts (see below)

Description: The OSU College Forests and Benton County Outreach and Extension are hosting their first annual National Get Outdoors Day event at Peavy Arboretum on Saturday, June 8th, 2013. The event at Peavy Arboretum is free to the public and will feature a variety of activities for youth (including free fishing) and guided hikes for people of all ages and abilities. A multitude of local organizations will be on-site to introduce people to different types of outdoor activities and opportunities for families in the Willamette Valley to access the great outdoors. Currently in its sixth year, National Get Outdoors Day is a national effort to connect youth and first-time visitors to the great outdoors, and also to support the ideals of sustainability, fitness and nutrition.
The event will run from 10AM till 3PM. Volunteers are needed from 8AM till 4PM in multiple shifts:
- 8am-4pm
- 10am-3pm
- 8:30am-12:30pm
- 12-4pm
Areas in need of assistance include: Set-up/Clean-up, Parking and traffic, Information/first aid, Photographers, Hiking guides, Shuttle drivers, floating volunteers, Fishing guides/assistants.

NAACP Rural Organizing Project
When: Summer preferred, but fall OK, 4 hours
Where: On campus
Description: Create a Kitchen Table Activism submission for the Rural Organization Project. The topic is K-12 Student Discipline. Submissions should make use of the following resources: Oregon Department of Education data, Oregon Leadership Network information sheet, and the Rural Oregon Project template. Submission will need to be written at a 6-8th grade reading level and, if accepted, will be placed on the ROP website.
The Rural Organizing Project (ROP) is a statewide organization of locally-based groups that work to create communities accountable to a standard of human dignity: the belief in the equal worth of all people, the need for equal access to justice and the right to self-determination.

Kitchen Volunteers Needed at Trillium Children's Farm Home's Old School Café

Description: Trillium is Oregon's largest provider of children's mental health treatment. Our vision is to help children and their families learn the skills necessary to manage their mental health needs and become thriving, productive members of society. The Children's Farm Home in Corvallis is currently in need of volunteers to help in the kitchen and wait tables in the newly refurbished Old School Café.

Work with children at Community Outreach, Inc.
When: Volunteers needed ASAP—flexible schedule (M-F)
Where: Mari’s Place, 863 NW Reiman Ave., Corvallis, OR 97330
Description: Volunteers needed for our childcare center, Mari’s Place. Weekly shifts available for 2+ hours working with children under the age of six. Help supervise and provide playtime for the children, tell stories, sing, clean-up, and provide support and encouragement for individual children.
Mari's Place is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm. Volunteers needed for all hours.

Conversation Partner needed for Non-English Spekaers at The Corvallis Multicultural Literacy Center
When: April 9, 2013 2 hours then ongoing one hour per week
Where: Corvallis Multicultural Literacy Center, 128 SW Ninth St, Corvallis
Description: Give a gift of conversation! Receive a gift of world friendship! Corvallis Multicultural Literacy Center(CMLC) is seeking volunteers to be conversation partners with people who are non-native English speakers. All you need to be a good conversation partner is an interest in language and people, a good command of English and an hour or two a week to meet with a partner.
Schedule is flexible.
CMLC will be having a conversation partner orientation to provide tips and resources for anyone wanting to be a conversation partner. The orientation sessions will be Tuesday April 9th 11:00 am – 12:00pm and 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm at Corvallis Multicultural Literacy Center. If either of these times is not convenient, contact the center. After-School Tutoring at Linus Pauling Middle School with Casa Latino Unidos

Description: Hey all! We are working with Linus Pauling Middle School Homework Club for an hour (3:30pm- 4:30 pm) every Tuesday and Thursday. All we are doing is facilitating and helping the students in need of help on their homework. It is nothing too hard so please come out and help us we need all the help we can get!!

Mentor with the Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis
When: Wednesdays, 4pm-5pm
Where: Boys & Girls Club Teen Center, 1112 NW Circle Blvd, Corvallis, OR
Description: Be a mentor to young women in our health, fitness, prevention education and self-esteem enhancement program for high school youth. Participants learn through group discussions, health & fitness activities, field trips, and guest presentations. Mentors attend the Weekly SMART Girls meeting and meets with their mentee a minimum of one hour weekly.

Volunteer Requirements: The ability to pass a background check and an interest in being a positive role model for a high school youth is all that is needed!

College Hill High School Tutoring

Description: College Hill High School (CHHS) is the alternative public high school program of the Corvallis School District serving students from Corvallis and Crescent Valley High Schools. The program is goal oriented and provides opportunities for students who struggle with in the traditional classroom to excel academically and complete their high school diploma. Our greatest volunteer needs are for during the following times:
- M, T, R, F: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM; tutoring and classroom assistance in math, reading, writing, health, social studies, science and technology
- W: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM; help with electives including horticulture, robotics, art, creative writing, journalism and more
- M, T, W: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM; tutoring assistance for GED class
Due to our independent study structure, our volunteer scheduling is very flexible and we can easily accomodate most schedules. OSU students in the Education Double Degree program can count CHHS volunteer hours towards their required classroom experience hours.

MIKE Program would like your help filling a critical 5 more volunteer position to act as mentors to guide mostly low-income, minority youth in their health education classroom settings through our comprehensive health education curriculum. For more information, click here.
Coach Youth Sports with Corvallis Parks and Recreation
When: Program begins the week of September 30, 2013, then weekly: two afternoon practices and games on Saturday mornings

Description: Remember when you played Youth Sports? It was fun! You made friends! It felt good! You learned to love the game! Help a child learn to love the game the way that you do. Share your skills with the youth of Corvallis by becoming a volunteer youth coach!
Volunteer coaches are needed in the fall for Flag Football, Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee and Tennis. Sign up now for opportunities when you return to school. The program begins the week September 30, 2013 with coaches trainings. Practices begin the week of Oct. 7, 2013. Only 5 - 6 hours each week with two afternoon practices and games on Saturday mornings. If you have the basic knowledge and the desire, we can teach you to be a great coach!

Tutor at the Jackson Street Youth Shelter

Description: Are you patient, positive and able to remain calm? Are you able to help a youth focus on schoolwork and be consistently encouraging? Are you able to commit approximately 2 hours per week to helping a youth in need? Then apply! Youth are waiting to be matched with YOU!
Personal tutoring is offered to community youth in need of specific homework help, and is supervised by Jackson Street Youth Shelter.
Youth are referred in to our program and are often struggling to maintain good grades and positive self esteem. Times are flexible (after 3pm) and depend on your availability as a volunteer, and that of the youth you're matched with. Jackson Street helps facilitate this ongoing relationship.
We are currently looking for 8 volunteers.

Mentor at the Jackson Street Youth Shelter
When: Flexible hours to be established along with youths' schedule; begins immediately
Where: Various places within community; supervised by Jackson Street Youth Shelter
Description: Mentoring is a unique opportunity to positively influence the life of a youth in our community. Jackson Street Youth Shelter's Mentoring program is certified by Oregon Mentors. Mentors are matched with youth who've been referred in to our program; matches are based on interests expressed by both youth and mentor. Mentor-mentee relationships are supervised by Jackson Street Youth Shelter and take place at approved, appropriate locations throughout the community.
Requirements: Are you able to commit 2-3 hours per week with a youth who needs a stable, positive influence? Do encouraging words come easily for you and do you find sharing them with others rewarding? Mentoring may be a great fit for you! There's no need to be an expert -- youth in this program need time, support and consistency. Mentors must also be able to communicate clearly and regularly with Jackson Street Youth Shelter; we're all in this together!

SMART: Start Making a Reader Today

Description: SMART is recruiting volunteers to read one-on-one, once-a-week, with elementary school-aged children NOW at local schools. We have a high need for Spanish readers at Lincoln Elementary on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:15 - 9:15 and 12:00 - 1:00. One hour, once a week is all it takes to help children read!
